USGA GROOVE RULE CHANGE
For those of you who have not been following the story, the USGA has decided that wedges with U grooves are too effective in producing spin out of the rough resulting in easier shot making for the professionals. Their decided course of action was to eliminate traditional U grooves from competition and force the manufactures to produce clubs with a V groove or a modified less effective U groove starting January 1, 2010.
What about the every day golfer?
The good news is if you love your wedges you can keep them in your bag until 2024.
Groove Sharpeners and the USGA: "Clubs manufactured prior to Jan. 1, 2010 that conform to current regulations will continue to be considered conforming to the USGA Rules of Golf until at least 2024. This includes clubs purchased after that date from the manufacturers' existing model ranges.
